Our Responsibilities As Christians

Once you have been baptized into Christ, and have therefore become a Christian, you begin a new life. Baptism is not the end; it is the beginning of a new life that is characterized by obedience and worship.

In this lesson we will examine some of the responsibilities that are placed upon every Christian by the Lord.


Character

1. Read Matthew 5:3-9. Discuss what kinds of character traits Christ wants to see in us.

2. Read 2 Peter 1:5-7. Discuss what these verses tell us about the kind of people we should be as Christians.

3. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:22. What are we to abstain from?

4. Read 1 John 2:15-16 Can we love the world or worldly things and still please God? Yes No

5. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. What shall happen to Christians who do worldly things such as these?


Personal Growth

1. Read 2 Peter 3:18. Does the Lord expect us to grow (mature) as Christians? Yes No

2. Read 1 Peter 2:2. By what means does the Christian grow?



Setting the Proper Example

1. Read Matthew 5:13-16. How are we like salt?

a. How are we like light?

2. Read Romans 12:18-21. How are we to treat others?

3. Read 1 Peter 2:11-12. What is the effect of a Christian's good behavior before others?

4. Read John 13:34-35 What kind of attitude does Jesus expect us to have towards each other?

5. Read Galatians 5:19-21: What will happen to a person if he has the kind of character that is described in these verses?


Association with a Local Church

1. Read Acts 2:44. Did the first Christians gather together? Yes No

2. Read Acts 9.26. Did Paul join himself to other Christians? Yes No

3. Read Acts 20:7. On what day did the early Christians assemble?

a. What did the early Christians gather together for?

4. Read 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. What else did they do on the first day of the week?

5. Read Hebrews 10:24-25. Can a Christian neglect worshipping with other Christians and still please God? Yes No


Abstaining From Worldliness

1. Read James 1:27. Are we to keep ourselves unspotted from the world? Yes No

2. Read Matthew 5:43-45. How are we to treat our enemies?

3. Read 1 Peter 4:14. Discuss some differences between our old ways of life and our new lives as Christians.
